3 Tips to Help Make Your Digital Menu Boards Stand Out

In a White Paper on FastCasual.com, entitled “Three Strategies to Make Digital Menu Boards Stand Out In a Crowd,” author Richard Slawsky discussed the increase in overall sales seen as a direct result of properly deployed menu board systems. Slawsky says, “According to industry experts, the deployment of digital menu boards can lead to overall sales uplifts of as much as 5 percent or more. In addition, spotlighting a promotional item on a digital menu board can boost the sales of that item by as much as 60 percent.”

In order to stay competitive in the market, just having a menu board in place simply isn’t good enough! Richard Slawsky offers the following 3 tips to help you make the most out of your digital signage:

Tip #1 – Focus on proper placement of your menu board screens
When a restaurant owner is deciding where to place their menu board system, it is important for them to keep in mind that “the digital menu board must be unobstructed, easy to see and not suffer from glare of any kind.” They might also decide to place menu boards in other areas around the restaurant to attract customers to new products, upsell, or inform the customer of wait times or promotional products.

Tip #2 – Properly utilize all the bells and whistles associated with digital menus
As read in Slawsky’s White Paper, “Effective digital signage should stop you in your tracks and make you take notice,”said Kelley Max, director of business and creative development with Burbank, California-based media company New Wave Entertainment. “This can be achieved with simple, powerful messaging, unexpected animation and dramatic visuals that creatively fill the space.” When thinking about deploying a digital menu board, keep in mind that in most cases the content can be edited quickly and easily. With static menu boards, new graphics, strips, and digits would have to be printed each time you wanted new content.

Tip #3 – Market effectively to the appropriate demographics

As with most QSRs, the traffic coming in to the restaurant is broken down into specific demographics based on the time of day, ultimately determining the product offerings. With digital displays, content can be created and updated to speak directly to each demographic – from your early rising breakfast crowd to your late night owl diners, and everyone in between!
